  • An idea worth spreading

We comprehend that nuclear power is a real danger for mankind, that over-crowding of the planet is the greatest danger of all. We have understood that the destruction of the environment is another enormous danger. But I truly believe that the lack of adequate imagery is a danger of the same magnitude. It is as serious a defect as being without memory. What have we done to our images? What have we done to our embarrassed landscapes? I have said this before and will repeat it again as long as I am able to talk: if we do not develop adequate images we will die out like dinosaurs.

Sep 1 2010: Don't forget that when it got really hot in Spike Lee's DO THE RIGHT THING people got real mad, too. I believe that was around 1989.

Apr 27 2010: Tarian: Popularity of a belief is not evidence for support of said belief.

Some people might think Subway will make them thinner because of all the Jared advertisements, but what made him thin is the fact that he walked there every day. Some people might think homeopathy works because it worked for them, when it might just have more to do with depression or their state of mind. The only way to make an informed decision is to look at evidence, and in both cases what is believed is--sure, I'll say "currently,"--false.

For every person that is "cured" with homeopathy, another isn't, yet they both paid for it. I don't see how that could be legitimate.

Mar 12 2010: Mark Drumm--we can easily destroy this world. Don't forget about nuclear weapons. We certainly CAN influence the Earth, some ways are just more obvious than others. While I agree that it's hard for a human with a lifespan of about a century to be objective about an ecosystem millions of years old, it is absolutely wrong to assume that we humans cannot negatively affect the planet.

A reply on Talk: Bill Gates on energy: Innovating to zero!

Mar 11 2010: What? You should cite some specifics, because I feel like I don't really understand your criticism. Are you bashing his presentation style or the ideas behind it? What numbers are "cooked up?"

I believe the point of this talk was to coerce corporations and governments into funding projects like this--to make it a good economical choice: save money and energy by doing this and thus increase your net profits. Corporations won't do good themselves, as I think you are saying, but perhaps we can trick them into doing good using their unquenchable thirst for profit.

Either way, I don't think you can say that his funding of a new reactor is a bad idea... especially one with such great potential.
